Books.

If you know me really well, you should know that I'm not the type of person who is willing to spend money on story books. Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy reading fairly, but not to the extent of paying for story books. Cos I don't see the point of keeping the book after I've finished reading it. I'd rather have some kind souls lend me their story books for a short period then return it to the owner. :)

Few months back, a kind soul lent me two story books by Anchee Min. This person was raving about how entertaining the book is and influenced me to give it a read as well.

I got a hold of these two books at the same time. I wanted to read The Last Empress first because that was the said entertaining book but then my friend told me to start of with Empress Orchid as The Last Empress was sort of like the continuation to Empress Orchid. Reluctantly, I started reading page one of Empress Orchid and I found myself automatically hooked to it, flipping pages to pages without a break.

Empress Orchid is one heck of an entertaining book. It tells us the story about a poor village girl who had no choice but to enter the palace in the hopes of becoming the next top model concubine. Every intricate detail is oozed in this book bringing the book into life before you even realise it! Well, for me at least. :)

Unfortunately, The Last Empress was a let down for me. It gets too dry most of the time so I wouldn't recommend this book. Maybe it was my problem, I don't know. Maybe I just didn't have the mood to read it but I still finished the book.

I'm currently reading this quite obsolete book titled Tuesdays With Morrie. I've been hearing so much about it, yet I never really took the time to read it until now. Yeah okay, I know I am slow! The cover of the book looks so boring, which is probably why I kept putting this book on hold until now. However, I have to admit that it's a very entertaining book. I guess this is what the saying of 'do not judge a book by its cover' literally means. Hehe!

It's based on a true life story and it is so heartwarming! Basically, it's about how an ex-college professor, Morrie, is going to die from an incurable illness yet he learns and teaches how to make the most out of it before his death. Towards the last days of his life, he met up with his student whom he taught 20 years ago and had a special bond with to teach him about life's greatest lesson. The meeting between the both of them would be every Tuesday hence the title of this book.

I haven't finished reading it yet because I'm taking my own sweet time to read it.

So is there any kind soul out there who would wanna lend me any book which you think is worth reading? :)
